MOLLE Panels: You Got Them…Now What?

As an off-roader or overlander, you know having the right gear organized, available, and accessible when you need it is critical. Sometimes it’s just critical to a good time. Sometimes off-roading can put you in situations where access to the right equipment in the moment can be the difference between life and death. One piece of equipment that can make a big difference in your off-roading experience is a MOLLE panel. MOLLE (pronounced "Molly") stands for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment, and it's a versatile system that allows you to attach various accessories and gear to your truck. We carry several brands that we love, from our very own IAG I-Line, to Builtright Industries. No matter which manufacturer you choose, the beauty of MOLLE panels can also be the thing that stops people in their tracks - once you have them, how do you use them most effectively? Fortunately, we’ve been through quite a few builds around here, and know what we’re doing. These are our tips on how to use MOLLE panels in your off-road truck.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT LOCATION FOR YOUR MOLLE PANELS

Once you've chosen the location for your MOLLE panel, you need to install it securely. Make sure you use the appropriate hardware for your specific MOLLE panel and truck model. You don't want your MOLLE panel to come loose while you're driving on rough terrain. For most of our customers, the goals of “securing my stuff” and “not damaging my truck” don’t have to be in conflict with each other.

INSTALL YOUR MOLLE PANELS SECURELY

Many options in the IAG I-Line like the dash mounts and door pockets allow you extra functionality and storage in your rig, but reuse existing hardware holes - meaning you don’t have to do any drilling to your truck - even in the name of improving it.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT ACCESSORIES FOR YOUR MOLLE PANEL

The true beauty of MOLLE panels is that you can attach a wide range of accessories and gear to them. Some popular accessories include first aid kits, fire extinguishers, recovery gear, and tool bags. Choose accessories that you might need in case of an emergency or that can make your off-roading experience more comfortable. Clamps and mounting solutions like the I-Line Cell Phone Mount and the Builtright Quick Fist Mounts make mounting your gear easy to do, and the options are endless. Play with your setup until you find what works best for you and your rig. When it comes to accessories to start with, we recommend a panel for your recovery gear, one for first aid, and one for a flashlight and basic tools that you find yourself reaching for over and over again.

ORGANIZE YOUR GEAR ON THE MOLLE

It's important to organize your gear on your MOLLE panel so that it's easily accessible when you need it. Use pouches or bags to group similar items together, and label them if necessary. This way, you won't waste time looking for the right tool when you need it most. One of the most popular bags that we offer is the I-Line Seat Back Organizer. It allows you to have important things within easy reach. We suggest using one for things like deflators, tire pressure gauges, or small tools. Many people will keep one stocked as a first aid kit that they never have to search for.

MAINTAIN YOUR MOLLE PANELS & GEAR

Finally, it's important to maintain your MOLLE panel and gear. Check your MOLLE panels periodically to make sure they’re still securely attached, and make sure your gear is in good condition. Replace any damaged gear, and restock any items that you've used up.

MOLLE panels can be a valuable addition to your off-road truck. They allow you to easily attach and organize gear and accessories, making your off-roading experience safer and more comfortable. Whether you’re looking forward to time on the trails, or you just want to get the most out of your new grocery-getter, the complete line of IAG Off-Road Accessories can get you all the style and function you want out of your rig.
