The Ford Bronco and the Ford Bronco Raptor are both iconic SUVs with a loyal following and what’s sure to be a lasting legacy. While the standard Bronco is designed for off-road adventures and rugged terrain, the Bronco Raptor takes it to the next level with enhanced off-road capabilities and performance. Here at IAG Off-Road, we’ve practically become Bronco experts, so you can count on us to honestly compare the Bronco to the Bronco Raptor and highlight some of the key differences between the two.
Only you can decide which is right for you.
OFF-ROAD CAPABILITY
This is an important one, and the biggest difference between the two Bronco models you might be considering.
The Bronco and the Bronco Raptor are both designed for off-road adventures, but the Bronco Raptor takes it up a notch with enhanced capabilities straight from the showroom floor. The Bronco comes standard with features like its 4x4 drivetrain, and its unique Terrain Management System, complete with G.O.A.T. Modes (Goes Over Any Terrain). It makes it easy to get over obstacles and deal with whatever terrain you encounter, with a simple adjustment at your fingertips.
However, the Bronco Raptor takes it to the next level - in addition to the standard options you get on a Bronco, it adds a 7th G.O.A.T. mode - for towing up to 4500 pounds (compared to the Bronco’s 3500).
The Bronco Raptor includes an upgrade on the Bronco’s High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (also known as HOSS) - with HOSS 4.0. The upgraded system includes Fox 3.1 internal bypass semi-active dampers with integrated reservoirs up front and remote reservoirs in the rear. Ford Performance upgraded control arms give you 13 inches of travel in the front and 14 inches in the rear. Integrated sensors allow that suspension to adjust for both comfort and capability. With a 2-inch suspension lift, and 37-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires (compared to the Bronco, with options from 30 to 35 inches) the Braptor offers an impressive ground clearance of over 13 inches, compared to the standard Bronco at just over 8 inches.
The Bronco Raptor also comes with unique features like steel skid plates for extra protection, integrated tow hooks, an electronic front stabilizer bar disconnect, and a rear axle with a locker - for even more off-road capability.

ENGINE POWER
The standard Bronco comes with two engine options - a 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine and a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine. The Bronco Raptor comes with a 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engine that produces 418 horsepower and 440 lb.-ft. of torque. This is a significant upgrade from the standard Broncos engines, which produce 270 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque (2.3L) and 310 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque (2.7L.)
We know, it sounds like sacrilege, but this seems like a good time to point out that power and torque are fun, but depending on where and how you wheel? This isn’t probably a defining factor in how capable an off-road rig really is under normal enthusiast use. (But it does make it more fun on the road.)

EXTERIOR DESIGN
The Bronco and the Bronco Raptor have similar exterior designs, but the Raptor has a more aggressive and rugged appearance. The Raptor features unique styling elements like a blacked-out grille with the word "Ford" in large letters, similar to its older brother, the F-150 Raptor. It’s also got a hood scoop, unique front and rear bumpers, and the iconic fender fins reminiscent of the original Raptor. The Raptor also comes with standard LED lighting, including headlights, taillights, and fog lights, which give it a more modern and updated look.

OUR FINAL THOUGHTS
The Ford Bronco and the Ford Bronco Raptor are both excellent off-road vehicles with a unique set of features and capabilities. While the Bronco is a capable and versatile SUV, the Bronco Raptor takes it to the next level, with the price tag to show for it.
So…unless you’ve got tens of thousands of dollars burning a hole in your pocket?
Get a “regular” Bronco.
…and think about leveling up the specific trim you choose, to get the creature comforts, extra features, or number of doors that make sense for you. The Raptor line is super cool, and for a factory rig, it’s untouchable. Here’s the thing: for the price that goes into it, we can help you build a rig that can do more, for less money. Upgraded suspension? We’ve got that. Bigger wheels and tires? No problem. More aggressive styling? Check, check, check. What we don’t have is years of lead time before you can even get your hands on your rig. Have you seen how long it takes to get a Bronco Raptor?! Instead of waiting and wishing, buy a Bronco - build something unique, and wildly capable. Make it all yours.
If it’s the Braptor calling your name, though? We get it, and we can make that great Bronco Raptor even better, too.
